Essay on page 171, heading Mother Terrific
Karen Christine loves kids. Having devoted her life to taking
care of and working with pre-school children, Karen has led many hundreds of them to discover some of life's most precious treasures. She's guided them
on the path to a wonderful self image, confidence, the ability to talk to their friends about what they think and how they feel, and most importantly,
she's helped empower them so they feel it's okay to openly demonstrate their love. Even in the midst of their "I don't want to's," Karen helps her kids
to see beyond their own selves.
With a hug, a listening ear and encouraging words, Karen has
shown her kids not only how to get up after a fall but how to assist others when they too have fallen. At Karen's the kids discover that what they do
comes back on them, helping them figure out how they all can have the most fun and the best of times.
Visiting Karen's day care one can get a glimpse of some of the
ways our communities could benefit when we all apply, in our own lives, more of those values and perspectives she so lovingly lavishes on her kids.
